Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association

 

he Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (IOA) or PERDAMI (Persatuan Dokter Spesialis Mata Indonesia) is the professional organization of ophthalmologists in Indonesia, founded in Jakarta on July 5, 1964, aimed to promote eye health and development of ophthalmology in Indonesia. IOA is responsible for improving the competence of Indonesian ophthalmologists, in line with advances in science and technology, and supporting the social well-being of IOA members.

Currently, there are 15 IOA chapters, consisting of 1141 members. The 2010-2013 IOA Board of Councils are comprised of four bodies; the professional arm as executive body, chaired by President of IOA (Prof. Nila Moeloek, PhD), the academic arm which is the Indonesian College of Ophthalmology (Dr. Tjahjono D. Gondhowiardjo, PhD), the Honorary Board of Medical Ethics (Dr. Soemardoko Tjokrowidigdo) and the Internal Auditor Board (Dr. Norman Lubis). The legislative body is IOA General Assembly, which is held every 3 (three) years.

Since 1996, IOA has been conducting Charity Cataract Surgeries nationwide, coordinated by Cataract Blindness Prevention Section. Advocacies, fund raising activities and services for cataract and other eye health problems, including refractive disorders, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and childhood blindness, are also among IOA's activities.
